Because man, I love doing them! I know it may sound a bit wierd, but I go to interiews and interact so well, it feels like I have been working at the joint for months already. Yesterdays venture: Alro Steel. The funniest thing out of it, was when I was sitting all by my lonesome in the Alro conference room, down in Jackson, MI. Rifling through all the profile tests, and opinion profile tests. Out of the corner of my eye, I feel the piercing stare of a guy peeking into the conference room. I casually tell him to come on in, he's not interrupting, to find its Al Glick. Of course the Michigan shirt should have been a dead giveaway, but him not having his executive entourage was surprising. I very casually said " Hi Al, How are you this morning?" With a surprised expression he replied "I think I know you don't I?" I then explained that I was formerly of Pro-Tec Equipment, and if I impresssed his cohorts today, maybe I'd be buying for him hopefully. He aproached me from the door, seeming to be more curious about the trasaction we were having. I also mentioned that I talked to him briefly at Fabtech a few years back too, even though knowing he would never remember that short 1 mintue hello session, it felt like I had an in for once. He then asked asking why I left Pro-Tec. This became an odd situation, knowing that I really shouldn't put any negative spin on the departure, especially to Al, I briefly said that I was on the less-employed side of a corporate downsizing, and tried to leave it at that. He rushed up to complete the transaction witb a handshake, and said very nice to meet you. Then realizing why he really came in and started this, he then asked "are you about done with this room, I need it for a meeting at 2?" Mind you that it was still 11am. And like a humble applicant, I graciously said "You can kick me outta any room in this place you want to, pretty much at any time Al..." He chuckled for a sec, and said "yeah, I guess I can, can't I, hmmm..." That was rather odd, indeed. But it felt like a had an in for about 30 seconds there. I still wonder at this minute why he really poked in and talked with me. I hope I didn't get too casual with him...
Otherwise the interview went really well, I had found from Rick Johnson, that they are trying to find people for Purchasing that have more technological background, and made sure to plug as much of that as I could into the interview. And to finish the interview, outta advice from Bonzai, I very cheerfully asked them at the end when I could ask questions, "so, can I start today, after all, I've got the power tie on." That was amuzing at least to me, because they were all dressed about twice as casual as me. They smiled and chuckled I think due to the surprise of the question I don't think they expected. They talked further about what the next steps are after they interview a few more people. And in roughly 2 weeks, they would wrap this thing up and pick for not just one position, but for possibly more positions as well. They were being very forthcoming, and it gave me the feeling that I would be involved in the final selections, at least I hope. Time will tell, and a whole lotta patience that I'll have to find from somewhere in me...
